This is not to say they weren’t at one point skilled, but today they aren’t current. This group also requires more $$$ to do a job that a younger, more eager person is willing to do for much less compensation. As if that isn’t enough, their advanced ages are killing employers’ insurance premiums.
This group now has so much time on their hands that they can attend these amped-up midday rallies with our nation’s most prominent fear-mongerers, paid for by a Fortune 100 company near you. The religious right’s alignment with conservatives has run its course and god has been taken from dead to mutilated corpse. The tea party is now there to assume the position, fueling the crowd’s anger and redirecting it subversively towards something they all grew up hating…non-whites and “weird” people. Instead of going to evangelical revivals, these nudniks are now going to tea parties.
Too much time on our hands, especially in a poor economy, is never a good thing as it usually leads to thoughts turning inward (ooh scary) and bitterness. Instead of approaching these ugliness’s head-on, it is the time-honored global tradition to redirect the confusing frustration on to someone or something else…aka scapegoating.
Perhaps one day this group of unemployed will realize the reason they lost their jobs is due to corporate leaders, of a supposedly similar political bent, having outsourced and/or downsized them out. These are the same companies that don’t want the current administration in office because they will soon be required to pay taxes just like everyone else. Funding the so-called tea party movement is a great way to mobilize the older and defensively arrogant unemployed towards opposing a system that might actually help them, thus perpetuating their time-honored agenda of fucking the hapless schlubs who play by the rules.
